Like any other, the Sierra Leone Film Industry is a sector that is full of young vibrant people. The industry has been growing steadily but it has been marred of late by the striking deaths of some famous young talents and leading filmmakers. Several have died but those on this list happen to be the most famous one that has died from 2021 to 2022.
Martha Millicent Macaulay alias Martha Sesay
Late Martha Millicent Macaulay alias Martha Sesay was one of the most influential and dynamic Sierra Leone actors of our time. She started her career acting in Sierra Leone and became a very admirable character. Since her debut appearance in the movie ”Bai Bureh Goes To War”, she steadily rose to the rank and become one of the most outstanding actors who went on to act with very popular Nollywood actors like Mercy Johnson.
She came back home from Nigeria where she spent some years pursuing her career and settled to support the growth of the Sierra Leone Movie Industry. She served as the vice president of the Sierra Leone Actors Guild, and the Acting President of the Sierra Leone Actors Guild for over two years till she passed on.
Born on the 6th of June 1986, Martha passed away at the age of 36, leaving behind four kids and a husband. She appeared in over 30 African Films. Her last movie, the movie she produced herself and acted in, ”Hold On,” which is to be premiered this 2022 by filmmakers in collaboration with her husband in remembrance of her good deed in the industry. What she died of, has not been clear to the public.

Elija Musa Deen
Elija Musa Deen passed away while the Sierra Leone Film Industry was morning the death of Martha. He served as the president of the Northern Movie Makers’ Alliance from 2012 till he passed away in 2022.
He was as well a movie producer, screenwriter, director and actor. His first major movie project as a director was ”My Story,” which he also starred in the male lead role. He suffered from an illness prior to his marriage till the time he passed away. He suffered from the illness for almost half a decade.
Sibbie Alpha Sibbie
Sibbie Alpha Sibbie passed away on the spot when he got involved in a very fatal accident in a vehicle accident while travelling from Bo, the second city of Sierra Leone to Freetown, the capital city on a film affair.
He was born on the 17th of November 1994 and Passed away on June 29th 2021. He virtually died along with all his legacy as most of his film projects were with him on his laptop when the accident occurred. He was an award-winning movie director that was very much recognized by filmmakers across the Sierra Leone Movie Industry. He was just 27 years old when he passed away with no kid and wife behind but family members.
Sibbie’s best friend, with who he shared the same room passed on too while the filmmakers’ convoy that went to burry him was returning to their desired destinations. He is gone but he is still remembered by several filmmakers as one of the most talented Sierra Leone Filmmakers that have passed on.
Roma was born in 1981. He was one of the first Sierra Leonean filmmakers immediately after 11 years of civil war cease-fire in the year 2000. He died on the 7th of April 2022 at the Connaught Hospital in Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone, his home country. And he was buried at the Kissy Cometary at about 4:00 pm on Friday, 8th of April 2022.
He was a cameraman, and one of the continuity directors that did help the film industry to get some very good movies out to the public. He died of heart disease.
