Early Life
Al-Idriss Kamara was born on May 15th, 1975 to Alpha B. Kamara and Fatu Conteh in Bo Municipality. He attended the Methodist Primary School Bo from 1979 to 1985. He proceeded to the Christ The King College Bo in 1985 and sat to the GCE in 1991. He furthered to the Sierra Leone Opportunities Industrialization Centre/Bo Vocational Training Centre (SLOIC/BVCD) in 1992 and graduated in 1996 with a certificate in automotive engineering.
Adult Life
He got married to the late Yawah Kamanda who passed on the 31st of January 2011. He and Yawah gave birth to two kids with only one alive now. Presently, he is single.
Career
Al-Idriss Kamara is the most decorated film awarded actor in Sierra Leone who has made the highest appearances in films so far. He is a screenwriter and director as well. He started his acting career as a theatre actor in 1990 when he made his debut appearance on stage in the play title ‘Tragedy of Samuel K. Doe. This was an Inter-Secondary School Play Competition amongst secondary schools in the Bo Municipality. In 1992, he was a founding member of the N’Dawa Theater. In the same year, Al-Idriss became a Karate student of the Sandia Shoto Kan Karate-Do school in the Bo Municipality and got to the rank of Black Belt First Dan. He the Karate trade as a tutor in 1998. In continued his acting career and in 1992 he made his first movie debut appearance in a movie title, ‘Forbidden Lovers’. In 1996 after his graduation as an automotive engineer, he wrote, directed and produced, ‘The Royal Throne’, but the movie never reached the public domain because of certain circumstances. So far, Al-Idriss Kamara is one of the most seasoned filmmakers that has existed in the Sierra Leone Movie Industry.
He has written approximately seven screenplays, directed seven movies and acted upon approximately 300 movies. He has won three big film awards: ‘Highest Featuring Actor 2018’, ‘Best Actor – FaNEA 2018, ‘Best Director – AWOL Lungi 2013.
