The Northern Movie Makers’ Alliance which is known as NorMMAL is one of the oldest film unions in Sierra Leone and it is comprised of some of the most tenacious individuals one can come across in the film industry of Sierra Leone. The success of filmmakers in the northern region of Sierra Leone has been very slow and one cannot clearly tell the exact reason for this because so many strives have been made over the years by several filmmakers from that region.
Early this year, the first elected president of the Northern Movie Makers’ Alliance, Elijah Musa Deen passed away, still, the executive he left and stakeholders of the union did not cease but have been able to continue his legacy under the leadership of Mohammed Special Conteh aka Tyson.
The rebranding night held on the 2nd of July 2022 was more of a get-together, meets, greets and networking at the Where Else relaxation centre in Makeni. The event was graced with a lot of performances from artists and actors from various groups. It was chaired by Hassan Foreh Kamara who happens to be the head of all the movie directors in the northern region currently. Multiple stakeholders were recognized and statements were made by the incumbent president Mohammed Special Conteh aka Tyson, the Tonkolili District representative Joseph Kamara and the representatives of the Sierra Leone Film Council and of the Sierra Leone Film Guild, Alfred Harun Thullah and Iscandri A. Sankoh respectively.
There is a rising uniting amongst filmmakers in the northern region, and if replicated in every district and part of the country, it could yield the most abundant result every filmmaker is looking forward to. NORMMAL is finally back on track and according to our sources, there are a lot of activities to galvanize and unite filmmakers in that part of this country to follow. the recent unit started with several meetings, the formation of a formidable executive, football games and now the rebranding get-together.
