The management of the first National Film Award, which is owned by the Academy of Motion Pictures and Art Limited launched the award on the 19th of December 2020 at the Tees Shopping Center, Wilkinson Road, Freetown.

According to the founder and executive director – Idrissa Barry Jalloh, the idea for the establishment of the NFA first came into mind in 2017 while he was in Ghana. He began working on it in early 2018 and finally made it public on the 22nd of September 2018.

According to him, the NFA was established to celebrate the creative industry professionals attached to the film industry. ‘This award was established to celebrate people with the passion, people that put all their time, effort and work hard to certainly ensure existence of the Sierra Leone Movie Industry.

He said the first NFA which would be done in 2021 should be taking 25 categories and would expand as years go by. He further clarified that the Academy of Motion Pictures and Art Limited is the first awards company in the history of Sierra Leone to have its own branded trophy, and Sierra Leone should be proud of the NFA awards.

On the 24th December 2020, the NFA was also launched on the AYV Television where ever details of award was established clearly.

Eligibility Criteria for All Categories

  • Your movie should be premiered in a public theatre, Tv, or online or being released between 23rd July 2018 to February 28, 2021.
  • Your movie should be on 24/25 frames per second and 1920×1080/2k/4k format
  • Non-English language films should be at least 10% subtitled

  23. Best action movie
