Filmmaking is a craft that every gender can be able to showcase his or her talent in every aspect of the art. Unfortunately, in Sierra Leone, females have been able to thrive as actors, producers, and makeup artists but not in any of the major technical seats as director, cameraman, editor, graphics designer, light and sound, etc.
Schwarbu E. Kamara and Maryama Neneh Bah
Finally, Maryama Neneh Bah has become the first female in Sierra Leonean to direct a mainstream full length feature film under the Lloyd Zachy Production Ltd. This came about when the production house saw it fitting and recruited a female, as per their advert; even though they had to support her with capacity building.
The Full Movie with working title Grandpa’s Tale, which is a mix of contemporary and archaic aesthetic about an old man who uses a folktale to reconcile his little grandchildren.
Grandpa’s Tale is also the first Sierra Leonean film to have both director and producer to be a female and more than one producer handling matters, on and off set. This movie is probably the first ever to have had its budget public, to have consumed the highest in terms of production budget which is estimated at Le, 93,000,000.
The film features Zachariah Lloyd Sesay, Sierra Leone fastest Rising Star actor while we see the introduction of some raw potentials like Alice Hawa Sesay, Osman Alhaji Suma, Aisha A. Turay, Habbi Jalloh, Daniel H. Boima and Khadija Kallon.
The movie is filmed by one of Sierra Leone’s finest D.O.P and Cameraman – Schwarbu E. Kamara, screen played by our wonderful Zachariah Lloyd Sesay, and produced by newbie producers – Christabel Y. Turay, Benjamin Sesay . while the production is being managed by Foday Musa Fofanah. The movie is still under production but imageSALONE can confirm it greatness.
