The Sierra Leone Film Industry like most of the film industries across Africa, is not in a good shape. It has however been growing even though at a very slow pace because of the lack of support from the GoSL by failing to put in place the right policies and capacity building for the several young filmmakers that believe in the craft.

From what we see, our findings show that filmmakers based in the diaspora have the tendency to highly contribute to the improvement of the Sierra Leone Industry if all continue to have more projects with the home-based filmmakers.

These are the Sierra Leone Actors in the diaspora that are recognized locally. They were rated based on their appearances in movies during the course of the period mentioned herein.

 

1. Collins Archie-Pearce

Archie Collins Pierce is the senior-most actor that is based in the diaspora. He is the Sierra Leonean Actor that has won the highest awards, both home and abroad combined. He appeared in the list of most expensive Sierra Leone actors from 2010 to 2020, that was published by imageSALONE.

Archie Collins has been into the industry for over a decade and therefore garnered popularity along with his good work. 2. Adeyemi Lardner aka Iron Master

Adeyemi Lardner alias Iron Master is a film producer, actor and director and editor. He mostly screenplay his own films and cast in them in the male lead role. He started as a film marketer in Freetown and ended up as a filmmaker in the USA.

He is the second highest award wining filmmaker that is based in the diaspora, home and abroad combined, after Archie Collins Pierce. Adeyemi is the strongest Sierra Leonean Actor based in the diaspora that has gain recognition in his own country. He is currently working on releasing his movie, Replaced. May be this would be different but he has normally done bad casting in some of his good storyline movies. 3. Princess Josephina Sesay aka Jnap

Jnap is an actor, MC, movie producer and the producer of the TV Show, Moment with the Stars, which is normally aired on the African Young Voices TV. A show that her younger sister, Simta Sesay, happens to host.

She got her screen name Jnap when she combined the last name of her first Sierra Leonean boyfriend and that of the middle name of her late father – to Jalloh Napoleon. It became popular when a South African filmmaker who struggled to pronounce it, had to shorten it as, Jnap – combining the two names into one.

Jnap travelled to Nigeria in 2012 followed by a lot of travels across Africa, especially South Africa, Uganda, Ghana, etc. She made her debut in the movie, Bad Escape, and since then continued to produce her own movies. 4. Winstina Taylor

Winstina Taylor is a medical professional and an actor. She has been the most consistent filmmaker in recent years. She has been one of the key producers for most of the movies and often appears in the female lead role.

She has been able to seal relationships with local filmmakers within the country and supported a lot through her good will. Winstina is currently co-producing a movie title, Replace which will be released sometime this 2022. Read her full biography here.

5. Salone Cool J

Salone Cool J is a singer songwriter, a show host, and an actor. He is one of those that has been promoting entertainment amongst the Sierra Leonean community based in the United States of America.

Even though he works hard, his songs have not been able to move enough common people in Sierra Leone except amongst his fellow celebrities that he has been able to gain popularity.

 

6. David Bukai Vandy

David Bukai Vandy is a pastor, an actor, and a radio presenter. He first worked at ABC FM 94 and later at the Voice of America in February 2006. He is born Sierra Leonean based in the. He studied at Fourah Bay College, the University of Sierra Leone. He got married to Mary Vandy on the 15th of November 2020.

David is one of the most creative, finest and funniest actors you would love to be on set with. His humility provides him a lot of respect amongst the young Sierra Leonean Filmmakers in the disapora. 

7. Hawanatu Koroma

Hawanatu Koroma is an actor, entrepreneur, screenwriter, movie producer, a philanthropist, a model, a beautician and the executive director of the Young Talent Charity Agency. She has been able to help a lot of kids through these agency.. She moved to the United States of America with her mother in her tender age. In 2021, she produce her first m short film Double Cross, where she appeared in the female lead role. She went on to produce the full-length movie based on the reviews she got from her fans. 8. Florence Tucker

Florence Tucker with the nickname Flo, is based in the UK – London. She is an actor, a professional beautician, screenwriter and a movie producer. She is the CEO of Florence Creation, a photoshoot Studio in the UK. 

She is currently working hard to release her recent movie – Reset. Reset is a movie in which Sierra Leone most popular actor, Ramadan K. D. Barry featured in when he went for a masterclass organised by ZAFAA. The question that one may ask is, if Fluence plans to storm the Sierra Leone movie industry with blog busters?

8. Rosaline Sesay

Rosaline Sesay alias Real Boss is a female actor that has gone off the screen and been on the low key for a while now. She is an entrepreneur and works with a medical entity in the USA where she lives with her kids. She left the shores of Sierra Leone at a very tender age.

She is one of the few actors that live outside of Sierra Leone that started their acting careers out of the shores of the country. She has starred in a lot of movies that have been aired by famous African TV Channels like African Magic and a host of others. In 2021 she launched a clothesline and shoes brand called Real Boss Production – the first Sierra Leonean owned brand that has been appreciated by both home and abroad Sierra Leonean celebrities.

Rosaline contributed towards sensitizing locals during the Ebola Outbreak  as well as the Covid19.  From what imageSALONE gathered, it seems she is out to break the silence and make a huge comeback. But we’ll sure be ready to update our followers when she does. It has managed to support a lot of local shows by buying tickets and Rose is one of the highly followed Sierra Leone celebrities online.
