The Movie Wath E’Behra has Been Selected for the Vesuvius International Film FestivalThe Movie Wath E'Behra

The movie Wath E’Behra has been accepted as an official selection at the XXV edition of the Vesuvius International Film Festival.

The mission of the Vesuvius International Film Festival is to introduce new names from all over the world to their audience. The festival is held once a month with an annual screening and it is a good opportunity to participate in an international competition. The films of the Official Selection and the winners will be selected each month, so the filmmakers will know about the jury’s decision very quickly. Every year, all the winners of the main categories will be screened live with the public. The winners of the year will be announced during the awards ceremony. For each entry, the author has the chance to win twice (the winner of the month and the winner of the year). The best films will be screened live in Campania, south of Italy.

Wath E’Behra is based on the true life academic and professional achievement of Haja Zainab Hawa Bangura, the current Director General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi.

The theme of the movie is based on forceful child marriage and the intentional lack of regard for girl’s child education in the rural setting of Sierra Leone in an era when girls’ education was not a priority as they were considered lesser than boys. Girls were groomed to become housewives and mothers because parents and society always saw them as foreigners in their parents’ homes; girls often ended up being married away.

This is the tale of Zainab, young African heroin that rose from a humble beginning with illiterate parents, in a small village in Sierra Leone called Yonibana. Young Zainab fought her way through education from a small village girl to a public servant as a Minister in Sierra Leone to the Director General of the United Nations Office in Nairobi, Kenya.

The movie was produced by Phebean Swill, a Sierra Leone TV host, entrepreneur, philanthropist and very notable awarded actor. And it was directed by Lansana Spartar Kamara, the most popular Sierra Leone movie directed who happens to be a very good storyteller.
