The National Film Awards add an International Category to the 26 categories that already exist. According to the press statement, the management made the decision because they got several film entries from other African filmmakers in other countries. From observation, this may be a window of opportunity in the making for the organizers of the awards to spread it across Africa and it is also an opportunity for Sierra Leonean filmmakers to mingle with other African filmmakers especially from other marginalised countries and some very big names in the African Film Industry.

The management of the National Film Awards gives thanks to every Sierra Leonean filmmaker home and abroad for being part of the process and supporting the process up to this stage. We are happy to inform you that we received tones of films from Sierra Leoneans home and abroad.
However, we also received many international film entries from filmmakers in other African Countries and beyond. Due to the passion exhibited by our African brother filmmakers, the management hereby informs the general film family and the Sierra Leone film industry that we are going to add an international category to the list to provide the window of opportunity for our fellow African filmmakers in other countries to celebrate with us the African way. We once again thank you all for supporting the process, and we look forward to more.
